I was thinking, I've got some of those 'beta plants' (you know the ones that
come in those vases with beta's) laying around the house in glasses and
such, and I was wondering.. what if I made a section of my aquarium with
some of those sticking out of the top, and the roots in the water? Do you
think they would hurt the fish at all?

....I don't think anyone's ever tried it, but who knows..

the peace lillys arent true aquatic plants, they need dirt so the roots tend
to rot in the water wich would be bad for the fish.

Tom, one of the frequent posters around here has plants dangling in his
tanks to keep them nitrate free. I'm reasonably sure he'll chime in.

veggie filters use all kinds of plants with their roots in the water. all you have to
do is find low light plants like philodendrons or ivy and put it into something will
protect the roots from fish nibbling
