Right, almost 2 weeks ago we bought this gold fish...named him fred
well...he was a little thing, and never to fiesty...so it wasn't too much of
a surprise when fred died on sunday
so we got this other fish. named Him george.
He's a big bigger, and very lively
But the thing is...His scales are falling off
we didn't notice this until we got him home yesterday
we've put this aloe vera solution from the pet shop in the water, and its
supposed to take out the chlorine...
and He seems generally happy, exploring his home and hiding behind the plant
( a green fern looking thing)

we took out our technocoloured rocks today, thinking they may be part of his
general adjectation problem, and he seems to have calmed down with out the
bright green, and blue, and orange, and pink glaring at Him
we put a mirror behind the tank, and he seems to interact, anyway he stares
at himself a lot.

i'm just wondering if there's something we can do? for His scales falling
off that is

I forgot to mention, that He appears to be sucking air bubbles, and flopping
out of the water, (like a trout after bugs)

is He normal???

EMERGENCY
1. check the water parameters: pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates
2. do the fish physical
3. change some or all of the water, add 1 teaspoon salt per 5 gallons water
4. from the water parameters and physical decide on a course of action
5. if there is nothing specific, do the tub to tub method

Okay, i've done all that...the fish seems well
no funky stuff on his gills
the water PH is fine He's not seeming overly worried about most things
He does seem to be going to the top a lot for air..but there is loads of
oxygen with in the water

now granted this is my first fish and am probably panicing.

though to be honest He does rest normally, "sleeps" for about 4 hours a
day...(don't know what he does at night)
so, perhaps i'm just worring for nothing
