I have a new 15-gallon tank, set up about 2 weeks ago. (15H, 20x10x18).
I put a couple of feeder goldfish in last week. It has one Penn-Plax UGF
with one riser tube, air stone, and carbon cartridge. Using an AP30 air
pump (meant for 10 gallons) placed 12 inches above water surface.
Situated with lots of northern light, so no cover or lights. The fish
are doing very well. Much to my surprise, after only 1 partial water
change, the pH has been steady to rising for 3 days. I've tested it at
night and in the morning. It's somewhere about 7.2-7.4. I would've
expected it to be falling (more acid). Don't goldfish like it a little
acid anyway?

no, they like alkaline. aerate a bucket of tap water overnight and see if the CO2
blows off this is major reason for pH increase. Ingrid
