I had a Shubunkin for about 2 years.
He was very tiny when I got him
He developped a swim bladder issue about 1 year ago.
His rear tail was all bent out of shape like his back was broken.
He seemed to have trouble swimming but was fending for his own
in a 30 gall with about 3 other 2" fish.

Slowly slowly he got weaker and weaker and then stopped eating
for about a month. He died today of no apparent diseases. The water
parameters are good. The other fish in the tank are very lively and swimming
around.

What brings on Swim Bladder disease?
Can this make a fish weaker and weaker to a point where he dies?

bent out of shape is nutritional deficiency. major one is lack of vitamin C. any
food that isnt frozen and fresh when you get it loses vit C fast. even frozen it
only has 6 months. swim bladder seems to be genetic (in fancy fish) and due to
overfeeding. there are lots of mutations in most batches of fry. failure to thrive
is a generic name for a lot of them. not all small fish make it. Ingrid
