We have a gold fish....He's brilliant...
weathers any storm...and seems stronger for it..
(including my daughter trying to catch him...)
but he seems to poo an awful lot

so...we thought to get one of those sucker fish to help clean up after
him..cause changing the water every 3 days is getting tiresome and expensive
(we have apparaently a 40 gallon tank) not to mention the little tike seems
lost with in the HUGE space allowed to him..

should we getone of those?

Lori

No.

That will just give you more problems.

Glad to hear that you have a large enough tank for the goldfish, that
doesn't happen too often.

They do poo a lot, especially if you feed them too much. Good
filtration is a blessing.

A 'sucker fish' as you call them will not eat the poo produced by your
goldfish. It will however either eat algae if you're lucky, or the flesh
from your goldfish if you're unlucky. It's a myth that algae eaters such as
plecos help clean up a tank. They actually produce much more poo than the
average goldfish and make even more mess. The only thing that will
effectively clean up the poo from your fish is a gravel vacuum.

Have you tried BristleNose Pleco's.. They don't get as big and excellent on
taking care of the Algae.. Catfish do not eat "poo", a lot of them are
Herbavoires and some are carnavoires. The best thing you can do is the water
changes.. Yup, sorry but fish are commitments and there are no easy ways to
care for them.. Although some people do well without following the "rules".
I would keep current on the water changes...

I have a few tanks up now.. Maybe 5 or 6 .. 30 G's and up.. In the last
three days on three of them I have done 50% water changes consectively, just
to make sure the water is clean etc.. ( I wish I had the ability to do 100%
water changes every day, but the means are not there )..

Even if you had the time, you would want to do a 100% change every
day, that would kill the good bacteria and stress the fish

100% wouldn't kill the bacteria if it was treated for Chlorine and chloramines.
