The continuing saga of the zits

Okay, the fish have had nothing to eat for 2 months other than Romet-B.
Cher's zit never goes away completely; new, smaller ones crop up. But she
*acts* fine. For about 3 weeks, I was also catching her every day and
washing the zits with peroxide, then putting Neosporin cream on them. Gave
that up finally. She seemed okay, with just a reddish area where the
biggest zit had been. Now, over the last 3 or 4 days, the zits are back, one
big one exploded, AND Homer has them again (both sides) and even Morticia
has one. Ophelia is the only one spared- so far. So today I grabbed all
three, washed the areas with peroxide, and treated with Neosporin. While
expressing the zit on Morticia, amidst the general, usual pus, out came this
*thing*- a semi-hard glob, kind of shaped like a mini-kidney. Off white in
color (out of a black fish), 3 dimensional (not flat like a scale). I have
not seen anything like this before! I tried to figure it out, but it didn't
seem to have any eyes/legs/fins- just sort of squished when I pushed hard on
it.

Is this not a simple bacterial infection going on (and on and on)? Do I have
some parasite doing an Alien on my poor fish?!!?? Help! (and if it's not
aliens, why is this thing spreading when they are getting Romet-B at every
meal?)

Thanks in advance,

while I couldn't even hazard a guess as to what might be the matter with
the fish, I'm pretty sure that feeding antibiotic for 2 months is
counter-productive. If this is a bacterial infection and the antibiotic
hasn't cured it yet, it isn't going to. All that you are doing is giving
antibiotic-resistant bacteria a nice space to live in without any
competition from bacteria which are killed off by the antibiotic; which
means that you will need to stay away from romet b for at least a little
while.

as for your "blob", if it had come out of a mammal I'd be inclined to
think it was impacted gack from a blocked sebaceous gland; as it has
come out of a fish, I have no clue. :-(

but as I said, the antibiotic isn't working and isn't going to if it
hasn't after this length of time.

Sophie is right!

If you been feeding antiboitic for that length of time with no results
you are wasting your time. The thing that you have to remember is
that bacteria are Gram negative or gram positive and what antiboitic
will work on curing one may not work on the other.

Find out what the antibiotic you are using is good for what kind of
bacteria and switch to one that works on the other kind of bacteria.
