Local chemist doesn't do pure peroxide but they do a bottle of peroxide that
contains the following ingredients....is this ok for topically treating fish

Peroxide (H2O2) 3%
Phosphoric Acid
Phenacetin
Purified Water

Geezer,

The 3% H2O2, usually in a brown bottle, is what most of
us use.

no because of the phenacetin. are you sure they dont have plain 3%? our grocery
stores even carry the 3%.

Geezer,

If it is the only thing that you can get and beings you
are using it only as a topical treatment I would not
see any harm in using it on your fish. The Phenacetin
has been used to ease pain and fever, but was taken off
the OTC market because of a serious side affect. So if
you use as only as a topical application there
shouldn't be any problem, just don't put in the water
or let any spill into the tank. Dab the excess off
with a cotton ball before putting the fish back in the
tank.

Nope this is all they have in the main chemist!

July 12th 04, 02:29 PM
then ask the main chemist where you can get plain peroxide seeing as how the
additives in there are carcinogenic. Ingrid

I did ask, the pharmacist was useless.

July 13th 04, 03:58 PM
are there any other pharmacists in the area? how about asking the fish store to
order some for fish keepers? Ingrid

Or find a beauty supply store and get some of the strong stuff and dilute
it. Or beg some from a beauty shop. As far as I know, there are no additives
in that kind.
