Greetings Goldfish Gurus

I have a black googly eyed fantail that is about five years old and male (as
far as I can tell from reading various faqs and articles). About two months
ago some lighter colouring started to appear on some areas of its body, in
particular behind its eyes and gills and along its spine at the base of its
dorsal fin. At first I attributed the colour to new growth, a theory I have
since dropped as its size hasn't changed at all. These lighter areas are
now quite obviously turning a bright orange and there is a strong hint of
orange from under the rest of its black scales. I'm not worried about its
health, but just interested in this colour change as I've never seen it
before in any of my other fish. Any ideas?

Cheers

I had the same question. My second biggest GF ( 5") is going completely
silver. It looks like it's sickly based on the colour, but seems fine
otherwise. It's always the first to the trough when there's food to be had.
I think it's a female, as the others were bunting it's belly a few months
back. I also found two babies last summer, which are about 2" now and
completely silver.

I guess I should not be worried?

Sounds like its a genetic thing. Don't worry at all.

To Geezer the List:

I've had two black moors turn gold, starting with their bellies. It
was a really beutifuyl change to watch, though both fush eventually
passed away. It may be that, at least in some fish, the black
coloration is an immature stage.

FWIW
