last friday i was geting ready for a weekend away (fishing actually :) when
i noticed that one of my goldie fry had vanished. I`d put him and a few
others into my hospital tank because they were getting big and trying to eat
their smaller brothers. He was about 15mm long and one of the few fantail
fry i have left. So i started a hunt and eventually found him stuck in the
the inlet vents of the small IPF duo i run in the quaranteen tank. I
eventually shook him out and dropped him into the water. He was badly (very
visibly IE looked like his left side was missing) crushed and i thought he
had a broken back. He was lying on his side and moving one pectoral fin and
only one gill. I reached in to get him and drop him into my large goldie
tank and let his parents euthenise him. Then he flicked his tail and made a
frail attempt at escape.. So i put him in the main fry tank, he seemed to
have no control over his bouyancy and just floated in the current from the
spongefilters, he stayed the same until i left on friday night I didn`t have
time to fish him out so just left him in there. To be honest i was
completely gutted, he was my favorite of the lot and i could have slapped
myself silly for not comparing the size of the inlet and the size of the
fry. I thought if he dies he`s either a meal for the smaller fish or the
snails or just something to clean out when i get back...
Anyway, i got back last night and spent 20 minutes looking for the body
without success, i thought he must have been fry/snail food and left it at
that. Anyway i got up this morning and did my daily check and morning feeds
when i spotted him in the corner of the tank, i couldn`t believe it. He has
made a recovery. He is swimming and feeding 100%, the flesh that was crushed
has gone practically white and looks like scar tissue, but his shape has
returned, his back is straightened out and he looks very healthy. I know i`m
not mistaken because he always was twice as big as any other fantail type
fry i have an the marking from his trauma speak for themselves. Its a bloody
miracle i tell you! Water into wine has sod all on it.
I`ve gone on a bit, but i`m stunned at his recovery, last friday he was
practically dead and i was copletely ****ed off. This morning he looks
fantastic and i`m chuffed :)
