Comanche Lily

Hi all,
Just checking in. The pond is crystal clear, the bio-filter you gave me
help with last summer is established. The fish are healthy and happy and
yesterday I got the first Comanche Bloom of the season. This is a changeable
Lily. Yesterday was yellowish, today will be peachish, and tomorrow a
darker orange color. I love this plant!

I've made some landscape changes around the pond. I took out some Hosta
plants that were near the front of the pond. They had become too big and
invasive. Moved them closer to the back and to other parts of the yard.
Planted some annuals there instead. If my digital camera were working, I
could post new photos... I guess the landscape is an ever evolving part of
water gardening too (not complaining, i love that poart just as much as the
tranquility of ponding)

Oh, one question... How deep can I plant cattails ( I think that is what it
is) ? I had them in the biofilter, they were doing great, getting thick and
tall. Then I noticed some yellowing on the outer stalks. So I took it out
and set it in water about 18 inches deep right in the pond - (its in a pond
plant basket). Will it do better there, or should I find a spot in the soil
near the edge of the pond.

Oh - and another favorite this year were the Red-Hot Pokers. They are
planted in the direct sun in the soil next to the waterfall. They had
beautiful blooms.

The cattails I had in a pot in the pond were in 27" of water - no problem

As it progressed through the season, some of the stalks would yellow (I
think it was normal) - I would just cut them off - There are many species of
cattails (mine came from the ditch)
