Natural pond?

I was thinking about making a more natural pond, maybe by layering river
clay and some sort of barrier and finishing up with lots of available sand.
Just a small pond, a few feet deep and less than a dozen across.

Anyone ever do anything like this?

There are lots of natural clay bottomed ponds around, just depends on where you
live.
I'd try a small test version first and see what happens.
