Has anyone ever used the Tetra 24 watt pond deicer? I live in Philadelphia,
Pa. and want to use it in one of my 500 gallon ponds. Is a 24 watt heating
element enough?

You should not be heating the entire pond. All you need is a break in the
ice so that oxygen can enter unless it is to shallow.
Here in the uk my 1000gal pond can have 6inches of ice on the top. I keep my
pump, filter and uv running all winter. The heat from the electrics plus the
warmer water from the bottom of the pond keep a 2foot hole in the ice under
the waterfall. My waterfall gets some ice but still keeps running. Deepest
end of pond is about 3 feet deep, and fish overwinter there. Come spring the
fish appear plus a few babies I have missed during the Autumn.
