much all the time is this normal for them?? he is the only fish in the
tank and shouldnt be stressed and the water checks ok.

I have a dwarf lionfish, and they apparently like to sidle up to some type
of rock or coral, which is covered with algae, and which there coloration
matches well against, and just wait patiently for something to eat.
Lionfishes are not pelagic, ocean cruisering types. They are lurking type
predators, and are happy when they are doing what they were hatched to do.
having said that, I will add that they *will* cruise the front glass of the
tank when they have learned that your mug coincides with food availability
in their environment. Mike.
