The pond is up, plants are growing and the fish are "enjoying"
themselves. A lot. *laugh* The mocking bird has added a new tune to
his repetoire - the song of spring peepers. It's a hoot to listen to as
it's not far from the "ode to the car alarms" in the rotation.
Over the past two weeks I have noticed that one fish which I am not sure
if it is a reddish gold shubunkin or a big rosie red has established
territory. The pond surround is flat rocks with about 1/3 of "wall"
below water level. This provides lots of nooks and crannies for various
creatures.
Well, in one of the nooks, directly below a pond light this fish has set
up residence. The pond light cable arcs out from the light about three
inches and then sweeps to the right. This has become the "front porch"
as we call it. Any fish that dares enter the porch is chased off. Most
fish have learned this and now stay out of the area. That is except for
two shubunkin. They seem to like to taunt this poor fish by coming into
the porch. It's really appears ot be a game with the two often playing
together against the one.
Anyone else ever see weird behaviour like this?
Aside for that, the dwarf water hyacinth (really cute!) appears to
finally be taking off. I need to trim back the parrot's feather before
it takes over the pond. However, all trimming that requires hands in
pond has ot be postponed for a few days as I also experienced my first
water gardening accident of the season.
I was getting ready to add an electrical outlet by the pond and while
tightening the clamp at the base of the outlet housing that secures the
wire conduit, the #4 phillips head screwdriver slipped and tried its
darnedest to impale my left hand. Needless to say, the hand is quite
swollen, stiff and sore with what has the appearance of a soon to be
wonderfully colorful bruise.
I have found some joy in it. I've been telling friends that the wound
was a defense wound when the s.o. tried to stab me with a screwdriver.
