I use a Pondmaster Mag-Drive 3600. It works well as long as the water is
absolutely mud and sand free.
I bought it from www.pondliner.com

Try a flotec. They are widely available, relatively inexpensive, and will pump
practically pure sand without damage:

On which pump? I only posted the front page for Flotec. My Flotec pump is 115
volts, and pumps 1470 gph. It is 1/6 hp. I have no idea what the wattage is.
I paid about $59 for it about seven years ago, but never used it until last year
(I was a little late getting started on my pond). I have noticed only a small
increase in my electrical bill (maybe $10 - $15 per month).

Laguna power jet pumps seem to have the best $$$$ to max head / flow
ratios.

I have not done a lot of research, but I can say my Beckett 1200gph bought
at home depot, has been running great for a year and half now. It's even
survived some dry runs here and there, if you know what I mean. :)

When I've needed a pump lately I've been going to www.thatpetplace.com
which has been beating out aquaticeco.com, aqua-mart, Dr.Foster, and
several others pricewise for what I wanted (mag-drive). ~ jan

I bought a brand new Supreme Mag-Drive off Ebay for less that half off
retail price.

I'm just not brave enough to use Ebay, with my luck lately, I'm sure I'd be
one to get burned. ~ jan
