hello everybody!
new water added to ponds seems to be the cause of much green water
right? can one age the water, in a wheelbarrow or rubbermaid tub for
example, and then add it to the pond? will that put off the green water
enhancing property of added water? thanks for all answers to my silly
questions!

Not really. Nitrates (the cause of the algae blooms) don't readily leave water
just by letting it stand and age. I regularly (as needed) top off my pond
straight from the tap, using some stress coat to get rid of the Chlorine and
chloramine, and I don't have algae problems because of it. If you have proper
biological filtration, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Of course, if you
live in a rural area, and use well water, the nitrates in your water could be
higher than what normally occurs in municipal water supplies. But if you have
the ability to do it, it doesn't hurt to age the water before you introduce it
to the pond. If you have the ability to age a lot of water, you can try adding
some water plants to the water to absorb some of the nitrates, then add the
water to the pond. Personally, I think it is a lot of trouble for the results I
get. Biological filtration really is the key.

New water per se doesn't cause it, it is too big a water change, disturbing
the balance that causes it. Best explained here under Green Water and Water
Change Outs. http://www.koiclubsandiego.org/H2oQual.html ~ jan

(Do you know where your water quality is?)
