View Full Version : Comet finnage

Someone told me recently they thought the longer flowing tail and side fins
on a comet, were often indicative of the sex of the comet. I mean comparing
comets to comets, not commons or other goldfish - some finnage seems to be
larger some than others. Is this true or more a matter of breeding.

Well I've never heard that, but I do know you can tell a male goldfish from
a female by the little white pimples they will get on their gill plates and
the front edge of their pectoral fins will be bumpy... easier to see the
bigger the fish. ~ jan

The pimples Jan mentioned are diagnostic. Fin length is just what it
is, there are long fins, short fins, and all between.
Men are taller than women, on average, but it is not the best way to
select a mate.
