More than likely we will soon. "PlainBill *apparently,*" she said, knocking
on wood, "couldn't bait us into a good flame war and has ceased." I went
back to my 10 day trash holder and noted that the only threads he had
posted to, in RP, were all OT with only one not being terrorist related.
I guess we bored him, and he's most likely moved on to more volatile
groups. ..... but my opinion could be all wrong.... but I enjoyed
expressing it. ~ jan :o)

Point understood by me at least. Marking the subject as 'OT' helps.
Some groups have various bans: politics, religion, Hitler, Monty
Python jokes, top posting, not trimming . . .the list goes on.
Ya gotta go with the flow and filter out the junk. Hmm. Just like a
pond, eh?

Mary Kate,
That is why there is an "OT" in front of the subject.
If you don't want to read things concerning topics out
side of ponding don't open it if there is an "OT" (Off
Topic) in front of the subject.
If you open it and read it then it is your fault not
any one elses. That is why the "OT" is placed there.

By the way Mary Kate,
You forgot to leave or put the "OT" in your subject
line, so technically you are the offender of the
convention that most everyone adheres to. So please,
adhere to the conventions setup for the list.;-)

ty didn't know that's what the OT meant. This group has allot of
intelligent people in it and for that reason, I have learned an
enourmous amount about ponds. I guess I'm just afraid of loosing some
of my (teachers) because of this political arguing and nit-picking. I
know it's just one of those things, but I would hate it to cause anyone
to leave the group for good. I hope everyone can make amens.

From "Good Lords" to "amens" (AMENDS), sheesh Mary you seem to be hung up on
Christianity at the moment, a filthy habit IMO. I suppose your name IS Mary
so I'll forgive you.!!!!! Hows the Prozac treatments coming along? Just
kidding with ya Mary, you have a nice wee pond BTW...

Oh, we've had lots of heated discussions before and we usually always bounce
back from them. It is a danger of *winter* when we've answered all the 'my pond
is frozen!! what do I do" questions and are bored. Political years are always
interesting, I actually used to have a liberal versus conservative ponders
ditty around some place.... based on Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich.

I am beginning to think/practice that the solutions to these sorts of OT
discussions are 180 degrees the opposite of parasite problems in the pond.
If you ignore them they will probably dissipate or go away. If you try to
fix the problem they may just grow and bug you more instead.
As someone else mentioned I dont like them at all. This group is normally
such a wonderful group of friendly, helpful people sharing a common goal of
happy, healthy and harmonious ponds. But 'discussions' some of these OT
topics seem to bring out ill will, bad feelings and unnecessary name
calling. I for one would like to see them outlawed in this group. The only
thing that changes is some feelings about members of our group. As many have
told their kids over the years - "If you've gotta fight - take it outside."

When everything you post leads to quotes from the old shows, the only
way to stop it is BoMP.

I suggest alt.fan-cecil-adams for a moderate intellectual group with
hot political discussions. Do not travel there unarmed, however.

Re that last statement: Depends on how good
one is with a knife or a gun, right? Check out Kill
Bill Vol. I and a certain fight in a kitchen. :)
And personally I'd take Willie Garvin & his knives
over just about any gun handler any day. (Well,
ok, *before* the final story in "Cobra Trap".)

Excuse me, Mary Kate,
Needless to say, I never mentioned Prozac, your
religious standing or anything else, that was Happy
Camper who did that not me.
It sure would be nice if you spew your venom to the
right individual. My remark was to just inform you of
the "OT" convention and why it is used.
Respectfully,

Jan,
Don't get your hopes up. I've been on vacation. Reading your
last post in the 'Terrorist' thread, I though we were coming to a
meeting of the minds.
But if you want to stir things up again, go right ahead.
