Had a stone waterfall put in about 9 months ago and this year has been an
absolute nightmare for blanketweed. Always had it but never this bad.

Waterfall gets covered in it and no matter how thoroughly I clean waterfall
and pond it's back within a couple of weeks.

I have used chemicals to treat it, and have UV and filter pond size 5000
litres.

Please help

Hi Jim,
Here on the other side of the pond we call it string algae.
Lately some rec.ponders have been having good luck by sprinkling plain,
unscented kitty litter on it. We think it breaks the fibers and so far it
doesn't seem to want to come back.
There is an article about it here (scroll down for the reference to kitty
litter (as compared to koi clay)
http://www.sfbakc.org/koienews/clayvsclay.html
there is also a US product String Algae Buster,
you may have something like it over there. The literature says it loads the
string algae up with calcium and breaks the cycle that way.

Jim,
We call it string alage here in the states, but whatever its called its very
annoying. So far I have never found anything to get rid of it, except using a
toilet brush to grab hold of it and pull it loose. Some people here on rec
ponds have used kitty litter but I have never tried it. Good luck!!
