Today I stopped by a shop that does spray in bed liners for pickup
trucks. I had been wondering, and others had asked, "Can you guys do a
pond?"
The answer is "You betcha, yes, but . . ." as you might have thought.
They can spray anything you can bring into the shop as long as it is
DRY!!!! Moisture makes the material foam up to 10X normal size. Think
"Ghost Busters" meets "Men in Black." This makes it difficult for
anyone to do an actual in ground pond liner with this technology.
BUT if you build a styrofoam [or whatever] plug [male or female, your
design choice] they can cover it with 1/8" or so of "urethene(TM)"
plastic. One of the guys had done a pond for his alligator that way,
so it is animal safe [for certain values of 'animal' that may or may
not include koi.]
This shop is not equipped to do field work, but others may be.
The incredible part is the material is very cheap and the process is
quick [less than an hour to do a truck/pond] so they could do a 6x12
foot pond for LESS than a purchased preformed unit.
So make a local contact and lets get busy making ponds!
The local [PA} place can be found at:
http://www.mawebcenters.com/tailgatesplus
for the next two weeks, anyway. [I do create websites for a living,
after all]
I can imagine making a female plug, having it sprayed, then burying
the whole lot in the back yard. Instant 700 gallon pond or beer
cooler!
