I wasn't really in the market for a betta, but when I spotted a yellow one
in Petsmart today I grabbed him. I've never seen one this colour before...
beautiful fish. The girl in the fish dept says they almost never get them.
My lucky day to day I think!

Noting how rare the yellow Bettas are, I special ordered a shipment of
them once (about 40 iirc). The first 30 sold like hot cakes, and the
last 10 took about 5 weeks (I guess I saturated the local demand for
yellow Bettas ;~). Surprisingly, the yellows weren't any more expensive
and I could also get batches of greens, blues and reds the same way, same
price. The whites, and multi-coloured (Tutwilers?) were the real
rarities. The Rambos were less than interesting. There sure is a lot of
nice Betta stock available though. ...could become very addictive.

Oh isn't that the truth!
26 years ago when I started keeping Bettas, there were only the normal veils.
I bred veils for many years too.
Then came Delta tails, Double tails (aka split tail), Super Deltas, Halfmoons,
Combtails and then Crowntails to any varition of the above tail varieties....Oh
man your head could spin!
Add in all the new color variations and you have quite a color pallet!
I recently, in PetCo no less looking for female Bettas (Our local PetCo seems
to get a lot of extended reds, pastels, and multicored females-), and I see a
jet black-Delta- Crowntail male. He's got a little dark red butterfly pattern
that shows up more in photos than real life, but he is absolutely gorgeous. He
also has maroon eyes. He has the usual silvery metallic accents on the
fins....what a stunning fish he is.
He's fully grown though = ( ...may not be into being a Daddy (older Bettas
don't often like to spawn), but I am searching for the right female to try with
him.
If anyone wants a pic of this $3.49 specacular Betta...drop me an email.
He is worth seeing.
His name is:
Diablo
He owns a 3g Eclipse tank and has a very tiny African Dwarf Frog as a tank
mate.
Diablo is a funny guy....He'll hide behind a plant and then rush out at you and
flare.
It's like you can hear him saying (as he's flaring)..I am.....(pause for
dramatic affect) Diablo!!
