I planted a dwarf lotus for the first time this year. I have alot of growth
and have three flowers forming, one of them quite far along.
The question I have is what do I do with it when it dies back. Do I need to
remove it from the pot and divide it each year? How do you do that? Any
good resources for directions?

Lisa, good for you. My dwarf got uprooted and lost in the pond. I did not
find it until mid season. I potted it up, but it is not doing well. Oh well.
Anyway, here is a place for the some information on lotus, repotting,
dividing, etc.

Sounds like you have a winner there!
You don't have to remove the lotus from its growing pot every year.
I haven't divided my lotuses in three years now and see no problem with
them blooming. I don't really advise this approach however.

For 'winter' protection, (yeah right, in Texas yet!) you just have to
sink the pot to the bottom of your pond.

Probably the best resource for growing lotus is here:
