View Full Version : help for sick gourami

I posted the other day thinking my dwarf flame gourami had hole in the head
disease. I've done a bunch of reasearch on it and now I don't think that's
what it is. My gourami has been fine-as have its tankmates (except for a
short bout of white poop that i treated with anit-parasitics). I crushed up
part of a multi-vitamin, dissolved it in a bit a water and soaked some food
granules in it before feeding it to my fishes. They all ate it and don't
seem to have suffered any ill effects but my gourami is still sick.
The gourami has reddish, cauliflower-like lumps on his head between the left
eye and the side of the mouth. I can't tell if they are growths or
infections. Any ideas? I don't know what else to do and he's hiding behind a
rock since yesterday.
I've been changing water (15%) every other day, aerating at night. My
parameters are good: ph 7.2-7.8, KH 80, GH 150, Nitrates 0, nitrates 40,
temp 80-86, and I've added some aquarium salt (less than recommended
amount). the tank is planted and has 3 marbled hatchets, 5 peppered corys, 3
platies & 4 baby platies.
TIA for any help at all.

First advice would be to quarantine the fish in case what it has is
contagious. Try & identify the cause, treat the fish and throw a maintenance
dose in the main tank as well to be safe.
try try www.thekrib.net to see if you can identify the cause.
good luck

I've got the gourami quarantined and I've given a second anti-parasite
treatment. I don't see much change but it isn't getting worse either. I've
noticed a couple of very fine, semi-opaque filaments or streamers that seem
to come from the body or fins. It seems more like a discharge than a
parasite and drops off into the tank. I haven't been able to find anything
like this but I continue to search. Thanks for your help.
