Second batch of axolotls have hatched and I'd like to do better
with this lot. Last ones were fed liquifry and then later live
blood worms. They didn't touch the worms.
The hatchlings simply vanished until after a month or so there
were none left.
This time there are more hiding places for them, but I suspect
it wasn't cannibalism. I will get more liquifry, but I was also
thinking of daphnia. I haven't had a chance to get to a fish
shop since the eggs were laid :/ but I should be able to soon.
Anyway, I also have a few ponds near me with daphnia in them
(more like lakes, really) - I once bottled the water to see
what it was like and there were loads of little hopping daphnia
in otherwise clear water.
I appreciate wild-caught daphnia might introduce disease, but
is there a way to strain them from the water so at least all
you introduce is the daphnia and no water from an external source?
Or is that a *really* bad idea, and my babies can wait however
long it will take me to hatch my own?
I'm new to all this but I'd really like to keep them alive a bit
longer than last time!
Interestingly, the larvae are all still albino at present. They
have an albino mum and wildtype dad, so they should turn wildtype
in colour. Last time, they were greeny just before hatching.
Wonder if they will change later on.
