I set up a small 1 foot tank for the purpose of growing marine plants/algae
etc. What lights have most of you guys been having sucess with ?.
I bought a small clam on light with a screw in fitting and bought a 28w
energy saver light, its rating was 5000K 140watt, there was another bulb
there rated at 40watt but it was a push and twist style connection and
wouldn't fit that light, the rated output of that bulb was 3000K 240watt.
If the brighter bulb is better then does any know if you can get a screw-in
to push-in adaptor ?
The substrate I used in that tank was near black mud, when the light is on
it almost looks white. The tank is very bright now, so much so it's hard to
look at for too long.

I use the super cheapo Lights of America fixtures ($15.00). They work
great the wattage is 65. The package says it's supposed to be like 500
watts! Yeah right! There's no comparison when the halides are on that's for
sure. But the LOA fixtures can grow some algae. Here's the fixture I use ==>

I use old lamp / bulb that is no longer in good spectrum. Basically, you can
use any bulb that can grow algae.
