I am interested in upgrading my FOWLR system to include 2 Metal
halides and 2 Vho actinics. I wanted to know if I get a hanging
hood(PFO) will the light be concentrated directly into the tank or
will the light flood the wall behind and the room. Wanted to know
because I need to determine if I need a Canopy with a retro kit or if
a hanging system will do. Also, what wattage Halides will I need if I
want of be able to have a Clam (T. Crocea or Maxima). I was thinking
about the 250w. Would this likely overheat the tank?

Thank you

Russell

I added 2 175W's and 2 55W PC's to my 72G. The reflector in the hood should
keep most of the light on the tank and not the wall. I get a bit of light
on the wall, but I didn't use the "parabolic-like" reflectors, but lined the
inside of the hood with a reflective metalic material. I wish now I had
used better reflectors but it works ok. I have a fan blowing in at each end
and don't have temp problems, so I would go for 250's, especially with a
more open system like hanging hoods.
