black moor not eating

I just got my tank wed. and I noticed that a few of my goldfish are eating
very fast and not letting my black moor eat. And also one was nipping at
it's fin..:o( so I removed that black moor and put him in a bowl. Well he
wouldn't eat there either. Finally after the first day he ate a bit. I put
him back in the tank cause he didn't seem to be doing very good...he only
floated around not moving very much. In the tank he's doing the same
now...just floating around not eating or doing much. I isolated him and
gave him food again...still didn't eat it. He seems very sluggish now.
what sould I do? Isolate him further?

Issolate him (for the sake of the other fish not catching anything, as well
as him if he's being picked on) and get some aquarium salt to put in his
bowl as per instructions on the salt box. Then, if he's in the bowl, do 50%
daily water changes (with declorinator :) replacing the lost salt. Clean
water with salt will often perk them up, but if you just got him he may be
sick and there might not be much you can do. I had a new very small black
moor that hung on for two weeks before dying on me....new fish are at the
biggest risk because they can come to you diseased, and they are generally
young and susceptible.

They also sell different medications but I don't know if they are effective.
Someone else may have some good advice.

I would advise against a bowl - they are not good oxygenators and are
too small for goldfish. Get a rubbermade tub and put an airstone in.
Try getting some medigold for your fish - this will probably help.
What colour is your moors pooh?
Have you tried hand feeding? Also what are you feeding?

I`m feeding flakes..I`m at work now so I can`t tell you the name of
it. I watched them feed last night and he didn`t seem interested in
the food..then I watched him this morning and he ate a few but spit
them back out. I noticed his poop to be brown but at times it was
long and white, he`s probably sick..So I really don`t think there`s
much I can do anymore. thanks for the advice though

Try feeding some soaked pellets. Definitely get some medicated
food. If you're in the UK then you'll probably need to order it.
Medigold is available from www.fishsempai.com (they ship
worldwide and also do the excellent ProGold pellets - highly
recommended).

what are your water parameters?
start doing large water changes every day. keep ammonia and nitrite barely
detectable.. just keep doin gwater changes and add like 1 teaspoon of salt per 5
gallons of tank water, but dissolve it first and add slowly with swishing.
do you know about cycling the tank?
dont feed for the next couple of days. keep the water pristine clear

Epson salt right? He seems to be swimming a little faster now. And I
did do a 50% water change two days ago and another 25% last night.
I`ll have to get a water tester so I have no idea what my water levels
are. And I don`t think my fish would be too happy not to be
fed...they might get cranky and really bother my little moor..:oP

well I have read in many places that people were putting Epson
salt..that's why I asked. And of course I wouldn't have put it in
without talking to the pet shop first.

Uh hello. Stop feeding ur moor flakes. Feed your moor with boiled
peas. put a pea in boiling water, peel the skin off and handfeed it to
ur little moor. tear the pea flesh to tiny pieces. green vegetables
helps with the digestive system of the fish. Feeding ur moor with
dried flakes makes it become bloated and full of air wich could lead
to swimbladder disorder ( where ur fish mite float upside down). feed
fish dried food "sparingly" as they tend to swallow air when they
devour the food item so always submerge dried food in the water. dont'
let it float but instead dip it in.

Hi geezer from the freezer. Uh I said "peel the skin off" and I said
tear the flesh into pieces meaning the inside flesh, not the skin. the
"flesh" is the insides, just like ur skin and inside is the flesh.

I have been feeding them peas for the past two days ( well only a few
peas ) and yesterday the moor started eating the flakes again when I
was feeding the others. He seems to be energetic and doing well
again. thanks for all the advice.

regular salt unless the fish has dropsy or is egg bound. for constipation a pea with
