Sorry for the crosspost. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of tank
disasters. Things like cracks in the glass, water all over the floor, etc.
Feel free to email me or post links in the groups. Thanks a bunch!

I have a burst tank sitting on the porch at the moment, luckily my entire
house is tiled or the mess would have been horrific I tell you. NO FUN
INDEED. Mopping up floors and saving fish at 2 in the morning is just not me
idea of fun!!!
Can I ask WHY you would want such pictures? I'll send one to you in a couple
of weeks if you still need them, I'm waiting on my new digital :)

Honestly, I don't see much chances of you actually getting, "in the process"
pictures, because if my tank was in the process of busting, or even shortly
after it did, the last thing on my mind would be, "wait, let me get the
digital so I can take a picture"... ya know? I'd be a bit more likely to
say "get me a freakin' bucket!!!"

My friend and I were trying to comtemplate ways a fish tank could break as
I've just taken up a new hobby. It's called contact juggling and to sum it
up nicely...I'm basically rolling a very heavy acrylic ball across my
hands/arms/body/whatever and it likes to escape as I'm not very talented
yet. I thought it might be nice to have some pictures or even just some
anecdotes/sob stories about what NOT to do around a fish tank and what can
happen as a result. My new-ish 55 gallon tank is my pride and joy and I'd
like to be as prepared as I can be for ANY sort of disaster.
Right now, it's slightly tilted as the floors in my house are not level.
I'm trying to find ways to stabalize it, as I've heard that the shift in
weight can cause extra strain on the stand/glass and may cause breakage...

How about a roommate ( no longer ) throwing an ashtray through the front of
the aquarium spilling approx 27 gallons of a 33 gallon tank all over a
carpeted floor. And the discus that were in it survived as I put them in a
bucket until the LFS opened and bought a new 50 gallon.
Sorry no pictures.

you want ways a tank could break? try these:

1) bad silicone on seams and it just busts. usually at the most
inconvenient time too.

2) bottom panel busts cause you didn't set the tank on a perfect plane
stand.

3) earthquake.

4) stray bullet from the gang war outside

5) indoor projectile

6) meteorite

7) away on vacation for 1+ week during the coldest winter, and power goes
out all week and your tank cracks.

8) you host a party with 20+ people, and the weight of all of them plus your
tank causes your room to collapse into the basement.

9) when cleaning those large boulders, you accidently drop them when trying
to put them back into your aquarium and they fall quickly and crack the
bottom pane cause you already had 30% of the water out 'cuz you were doing a
'deep cleaning'.

10) a tornado rips thru your trailerpark and your tank ends up in kansas.

Speaking of projectiles....

A few years back my neighbor asked for assistance in setting up a
large (125gal) tank in his rec room...at the time I questioned the
wisdom of placing a large pane of glass so close to the end of a pool
table...but he would not be convinced...several months later I
received a frantic call late on a Saturday night...."Help! Bring the
wet vac and some buckets!!!"...Sorta makes the billiards term "break"
seem prophetic.

2 years later I still have most of the "survivors" in the "big-fish"
tank in my basement....

"Man, I hate it when that happens" (apologies to SNL)
