View Full Version : Kent Hi-S Maxxima 60 gpd problem

Over the past week the flow from my RO/DI unit has slowed and now stopped. I
have taken everything apart to check for clogs, etc and believe I have found
the problem but want to double check before I spring for a new membrane.

All of the tubing is clog free- I have blown through all of them and they
seem fine.
I took apart all of the clear cannisters and hosed off the innards- there
was a fair amount of algae in the first two cartridges- my unit sits outside
and saw some sun before I figured out NOT to allow this.

The clog seems to be the membrane itself- water is simply not making it
through it to the DI cartridge- once I emptied and cleaned the DI cannister
it won't fill back up.
Should I be able to blow through the membrane?
Or is it so impermeable that I woyuldn't be able to even if it were new?

The unit is only nine months old, but as I said has seem some abuse due to
its outdoor location and extreme algae build up inside the cannisters. I
will remedy this of course, but do you think membrane clog is indeed my
problem?

Do I have to order a Kent Hi-S replacement membrane or could I possibly find
something locally that will fit i.e. are the brands interchangeable??

I will of course go ahead and replace everything- just hoping I can find
suitable replacement parts locally??

Thanks everyone!!

a membrane is a plastic film with really tiny holes. no, you can't blow
through it, and yes, it can get clogged by all sorts of things. that's why
there's supposed to be prefilters in place.

[membrane problems....]

You could just email Kent and ask them how to clean it. Maybe a good bleaching
or acid bath for cheap will restore your membrane. HtH. -M333
