All,
In my smaller tank I have a green-striped hermit crab and I have just
noticed today that he is letting out what looks like smoke or a powder from
the front of him !
Can anyone explain this ?

is it sitting up in a sand bed? could be after-sex smoking.

I've noticed this on a couple of mine. Looks as if they are passing wastes.

When there is no substantial food to be had, they resort to a kind of
'filter feeding'. You're seeing the dust from the substrate that he's
filtering through looking for food. In other words, he's doing
exactly what he's in there to do.<g> I don't feed mine at all, so
they do this constantly.
