way too complicated there are a number of things that will rid a tank of shrimp

triggers
puffers
groupers

for the non animal way, though they might(spelled w i l l ) remove other things to,
including things you want to keep
high changes in salinity, temp ....

i could keep building a list, i suspect you need to tell us which shrimp you want out.

Thanks for the ideas, I think I'll try a trap and let you know how I get on!

Use a crab net trap (smaller size of course) that use to catch crap with.
Use the simple version kind. The one I am talking about is the two ring. The
top part is the larger ring and the bottom is the smaller ring. Put the bait
in the middle. When that target critter that you talking about, just pull
the rope up (in this case, string). You can use those thing that hold your
indoor plant that hang on the ceiling or whatever. There are several version
(metal, string, basket etc..) get the string version. It should lay flat on
the surface. I think it cost just a couple of buck.

I use those crab net trap for fishing crab. Get bucket full of crab.

If you have ever seen a large crab shrimp or fish trap, you can make the
same thing out of a margarine tub.

Simply cut the lid with a razor in an * shape and bend in the points
inward so that the shrimp can get in but not out. Put bait in the tub.
