View Full Version : When is it enough CO2?

I have invested in a CO2 setup after having thought about it for a long
time, considering the costs, but now it's been going for about 3 weeks.
Today I noticed that my plants are bubbling! I can see long strands of tiny
bubbles coming from the leaves, as well as larger bubbels being trapped
under the leaves. So then you'd think the desired balance has been achieved
right? But my test kit still shows that there's too little CO2... I'm
confused :)
Interesting to notice though, that the fish have never seem to thrive better
than they do now, even though I considered them to be happy and thriving
before, I really do belive I can see a difference to the even better now! I
have no regrets about investing in this CO2 setup, both fish and plants seem
to be very happy :D

I believe the bubbling is called pearling and it's the cat's meow level
of CO2 saturation. It sounds like you have enough CO2. The readings
might be low if your pH or kH are high. The folks in r.a.f.plants would
have more info for you.

When I first got my Co2 going, I saw the same thing you're seeing... it's
actually holes in the leaves that is allowing the o2 in the plants to escape
and not the pearling.... what WILL happen though is the plant leaves will
heal and when you find your perfect mix of Co2 then you will see the
pearling on top of the leaf, side and bottom of each leaf... Your test kit
is probably right and the levels of CO2 are just starting to be noticed...
give it a couple more weeks to see if the plant leaves heal and you'll see a
different type of bubbling....

Don't you just love when an investment pays off??!!!!

I had pearling in the old tank on a couple of occasions, but with this new
tank, the water is medium hardness, but the more CO2 I inject, it just drops
the PH, with no sign of bubbles.
I personally like it in the tank and wish I could get it to kick off.
