This would appear to be expulsion of excess zooxanthellae. Its harmless and
not related to reproduction.

That is correct. When they expel zooanthellae, the symbiotic algae stored in
their tissue, it could be because they were stressed for some reason. As long
as the corallimorph continues to stay colored up okay, you don't have to worry
about it.

Now that can get you in trouble :-)

It isn't expelling zoo's, it is just excreting waste. Waste is often excreted as strands.
Zoo's aren't shed or expelled that way.. They are usually just pooped out right through
the tissue or are collected in a little pellet and eject out the mouth. Other times they
just expel the dermal layer
