I am looking at the pics and my first reaction is to call it normal coloration, what I see
in the pictures doesnt stand off from her scales, if they were then i might worry but I
dont see that in the pictures. do they apear flat, is she doing the anti ich thing against
rocks and such ??

These spots are often encountered in clowns and is believed to be associated with the
clowns taking up a non-natural host>

If You See Me Running You Better Catch-Up

: Hi All......
: I have googled this a couple of times and can not find any info. With
: the wealth of knowledge here maybe someone has seen it before.
: I have three Sabae's. A pair that live in my ten gallon nano for about a
: year with no problems.
: (10 gal, 3inchs southdown, bakpak2 skimmer, power head, 25lbs LR, 2 sabae's
: and a LTA, 72watts PC)
: Then I have this fellow in my 30 gallon that appears healthy, eats well,
: swims well etc. I have had it for about 2 years. About three months ago I
: started seeing black spots on this Sabae. This was my first SW tank and has
: been running for about three years.
: 30 gallons, Remora skimmer, 2 maxijet power heads,192watts PC, 75 lbs LR,
: cuushed coral base 2 to 4 Inches. Water changes in both tanks are 20% every
: two weeks. Same salt (IO), same water RO/DI.
: Fish in 30 = 1 small yellow tang small, 1 yellow tail damsel(yep 3 years
: old), 1 coral beauty small, and of course the black spotted Sabae. All fish
: have been in this tank a year or longer and get along well.
: In addition to the fish both tanks have snails and red and blue leg hermits.
: Water conditions are fine (I'm ducking!)...
: Both tanks test the same.
: ammonia 0
: nitrates 0
: nitrites 0
: ph 8.2 to 8.4 ish
: calcium 400ish
: Salinity 1.025/34
: I dose daily with B-Ionic 2pt buffer.
: The reason I gave both tanks info is because they are both similar and both
: contain Sabae's
: Nothing has changed in these tank's in at least a year (except for the black
: spots on the Sabae in the 30 gal).
: Pic's of black spots on Sabae
: http://home.hvc.rr.com/cyberbob/spots/Thumbs1.htm
: Has anyone ever seen this before or read about it anywhere?
: Possible causes? It does not seem to bother the clown but this can't be
: healthy I would think.
: This fish was very small when I got it (maybe an inch and a 1/4 and is now 2
: 1/4inches almost as big as the coral beauty) Could it be going through some
: changes?
: It also likes to hang out in one of my Zoanthids that's behind him in the
: Pic's, could it be getting stung?
: Thanks in advance for any info.

You are right Richard. They are flat and do not stand off. just coloration.
No ick thing.
I'm reading reefcentral now for other cases and the more I read the more I
think Boomer is correct.
It appears to be a coloration thing and not a sickness thing because anyone
who has seen it does not say the fish are acting sick.

"These spots are often encountered in clowns and is believed to be
associated with the

I think Boomer has the answer here. I guess it's time to buy yet another
book. :)
Maybe I can just speed read at Barnes & Noble.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. At the very least you put my mind at
ease that I'm not about to have it croak. In three years I've lost only one
fish (A yellow tail damsel) that jumped from the tank.
I hate it when that happens.

Thanks Again
Bob
