View Full Version : bak pak on a sump?

Hi,
A couple of related issues to my previous post. First, in case it
wasn't clear, I am replacing the 65 gallon with a 75, to get a lower,
longer tank. The 65 has been difficult to light and maintain, etc.
I would like use my Bak Pak II skimmer as a hang-on on a 20L sump, in
order to save money and avoid buying a new skimmer. The Bak Pak has
been working very very well for me in the 65 gallon, in addition to the
live rock. (it has been modified with a maxi-jet pump, and an
additional airstone in the chamber)
I know this is not ideal, but I don't understand what the reasons are
why I shouldn't do this?
Any recommendations on a better skimmer for the sump? Good but
affordable models?
Thanks
Ken

A lot depends on the bio load of your tank, but I know the BakPac is
only rated for 55gals. When I upgraded to my bigger tank I replaced my
Bakpac with an AquaC whcih has worked really well.

Your Bak-Pak II MIGHT do.
That's what I use on my 25 gal, at work.
It might be a little small for a 75 gal tank.
For a sump, you can't beat the Aqua-C Urchin.
(without adding a "0") There's better out there, but they're a
fortune.
They adjust just (?) like the Bak-Paks do.
I have the Pro version (the bigger one) in my 20 gal sump under my 75
gal tank at home.
Works great. NO fuss.
