Hi Martin, Ernie here.

I'm using a 2 parts additive, C Balance, and I already have
coraline algae growing up in several spots of my tank, rocks and specially,
on the protein skimmer surface.
Give it a try.

Check this out.

Thanks, Ernie.

After doing some research and chatting on the #reefs IRC channel, I
decided to eschew additives and calcium reactor in favor of a kalk
reactor and a dosing pump. The plan is to mix RO/DI via the kalk
reactor to replace evaporated water. The kalk reactor does not require
CO2, and maintenance is minimal. However, the kalk reactor seemed to
provide excellent performance.

We shall see.

Martin

It can work as long as your system NEVER fails and doesn't
attempt to drop in non-stop fluid into your tank laden with
kalk (pH of 12.0). If you are using a fixed resevoir of
water to limit catastrophe then you're wise.

I used B-Ionic for years, which is the same as C-Balance.
It was easy and maintained my water parms well. Since I
upgraded my system to a 280g reef + 80 sump I'm using a Ca
Reactor now.
