i shouldn't have bought that betta from the 24/7 grocery, etc. store!
i noticed his anal fin looked a bit thin at the bottom but i didn't
think anything of it. well now it's starting to shred along with his
dorsal fin. ack!! my sister just had a baby so i haven't had time to
go out to the pet store and buy something for it. i think it's called
myx....something? or purple something or other. anyway, what have
you guys used for fin rot in the past, or what would be the best thing
to do? TIA

Best thing to do is figure out what causing the fin rot. Are you
testing for ammonia? If the tank is uncycled you need to be performing
100% water changes before any ammonia becomes present. You also MUST be
testing your water with an ammonia test kit regularly as well as
conditioning it. Tanks smaller then 1 gal are very difficult to keep
ammonia from building rapidly. Maybe if you elaborate a bit on your
tank set-up we can pin-point the cause... Tell us about the tank size,
water additives, amount of food and type you're feeding. It's also
possible the water conditions were terrible at the store and the fin
rot was caused by that... as you suspected.
