View Full Version : O-Ring lubricant

My protein skimmer has an O-Ring on the collection cup and the cup is
getting difficult to remove so I was thinking that lubricating the O-Ring
would fix the problem, but lubricate it with what? What would be safe for
fish/reef?

Mine has a O-ring as well, and I've never put any oils or greases on
it, makes me nervous, I've had enough problems. I moisten it with
fingers dipped in freshwater.

Bad for your o-rings, too. Do not, under any circumstances, use petroleum
based lube if your o-rings are made of rubber (most are). They will melt.
Silicone grease is the only option for rubber o-rings. A Pool Supply store
near you will have it, I'm sure.

I can't speak for any of the synthetic compounds like Viton, Tygon, and
such.

FWIW,
Kev
