View Full Version : Dead Rose BTA
Mr. Foo
September 13th 04, 12:13 AM
I added a nice Rose BTA about a week and half ago. It spent a few days
wondering around but hadn't left its spot in
about 3 or 4 days.Yesterday morning I fed the tank some brine shrimp and
mysis mixed together and then some Nori
around 10 pm. I went and looked at the tank around 1 am and noticed the
anemone had moved and I couldn't see it.
This morning it was still gone but the clown fish that hasn't really left it
since I added it to the tank was swimming near
the same place I last saw the anemone so I thought it had just gone into a
cave and I couldn't see it. That was about 10
hours after I had last saw it looked totally healthy). Around 2pm I noticed
a piece of flesh by one of the rocks and
realized something was wrong. I started moving rocks and found a little
more. The anemone is gone, completely except
for the tiny pieces of flesh I found (3). The pieces would've made up about
maybe a fifth of the size of the anemone. Is it
possible something ate it? I have had a seabae die once and that was after 4
or 5 days of it going downhill. I have never
heard of one dieing in hours like that from being perfectly healthy. I did
make some changes this week. I added a marine
slug, a small Blue Tang and some Zoos 4 days ago. Last night was the first
time I had ever put Nori in the tank and I am
thinking maybe that killed the anemone and then the 3 crabs and coral band I
have ate it. I did 30% water change and
tested ammonia and it was 0. I do weekly 10-15% water changes with RO water.
I have a 400watt halide and 15 watt
acenteic fluorescent.
Current inhabitants are:
1 Maroon and yellow striped Clown
1 yellow tail blue Damsel
1 Blue Tang
2 Hermit crabs
1 Coral Banded Shrimp
1 Sea urchin
1 Emerald Crab
46 gallon tank, all water params seem fine. The temp gets up to 82-84 with
the halide, since this morning I took that off
and put my power pcs back on until I figure out what happened. Anyone have
some ideas?
Thanks,
Kelly

Covered with what?
Those little plastic guards are not enough to protect an anemone.
