Is there any benefit for leaving dead plecos in an aquarium that is
populated only by plecos? I'm just trying to figure out why on earth the LFS
would leave the corpses in there so long that they would be almost skeletal.
Like, imagine a couple of them died in their sleep, and were left to decay
until there was no more meat on the bones.

I wanted to hear some opinions before I ask the LFS why they leave them
there.

thanks

There is no practical reason so it sounds like neglect. The theoretical
reasons (feed the scavengers meat and buffer the water are basically
ridiculous, as letting fish eat meat from something which might have died
from a disease is a great way to spread disease, and the buffer effect
would be so minimal as to be insignificant). Talk about leaving a bad
impression on customers. Maybe they are about to go on strike, or they
didn't like their pay raise ;~).

To be fair, sometimes skeletons get lost inside densely planted tanks,
and then some activity causes them to drift over to the front, now in
plain view. You have to decide yourself if this could be the case at
your LFS.

IMO...that would be an LFS to avoid.
It's never good to keep the dead, decaying bodies of anyting in a tank.
Very poor husbandry for a shop.
