View Full Version : Anyone Using a Tetratec Deep Water Air Pump - Strong/Quiet??

I've been using a Rena 100 for the last 2 years to run a 6" and 1"
airstone in a 20 gal and 5 gal tanks, respectively. The Rena is nice and
quiet but it's not quite strong enough to run my 2 airstones, IMO. I was
wondering if the Tetratec DW-18 would be a better pump to use for what I
need.... which is more agitation/bubbles in the tanks. I've seen old
posts from a couple years back that say the Tetratec DW-18 is a quiet
pump, but I'd like to know if that still holds true in 2003.

NO Tetra stuff around HERE.. for some of us anyway.. lots of people
including me sent it all back to Tetra in garbage bags after their
ridiculous spot on some morning news shows about how *easy* setting up a
marine tank is with no real instructions or explanations of any kind, not
even bothering to mention that little 5 gallon tank they were using as a
demo needed to have SALT water in it for all those poor critters they dumped
in.. okok.. it's old news.. anyway.. if that Tetratec is made by Tetra.. and
I am sure it is, duh... they could give them away and I wouldn't use it..
but because of the above reason, not because of any quality issues I am
aware of.. There are plenty of airpumps that are nice and quiet if you just
place them right so they aren't buzzing up against something, even cheap
ones.. I have a $5 one sitting on top of my 55 gallon to run my skimmer and
I don't even know it's there.

i remember the tetra thread a while back, someone was calling for a
boycott. sounded a bit drastic in my opion.
every company of any size has had @ least 1 person make a statment
that was not the opion of the company. if we boycotted all these
companies, there'd be nothing left to buy. i seriously doubt anyone
in this forum returned any products to tectra.
if you disagree w/ a company's statements, you should contact the
company & voice your concern, not avoid a quality product (assuming
they make quality products). i'm not affliated w/ tectra, not do i
own any of their products.

I believe they finally updated their site to tell would-be sal****er hobbyists
to go do some reading. <sigh>
