View Full Version : Another Question Regarding Water Changes

I'm using the long hose that attaches to the sink to suck out and replace
the water. If the water goes directly into the tank from the sink, how can
I decholorinate the water? I usually add a dechlorinator afterward, but is
that too late?

Thank you for your time,

Brian

1) Remove water.
2) Turn off bio-filters
3) Add dechlor to tank
4) Add new water
5) Turn on bio-filters.

(Some may find step 2 and 5 overly paranoid...)

You can add dechlorinator before adding water from your sink. Many people
with chlorinated water will also make sure the water from the hose hits the
top of the water to create turbulence. Many python users out there have
chlorinated water and have been adding dechlorinator before adding water
without problems for years. =)

(smacks head..) Why in the world didn't I think of that.. Well that makes
sense. That would keep the bad water from going in the filter and hurting
the bio stuff.

Thanks =)

I have been using a carbon water filter. Straight from the tap and into the
tank.
I had checked with the supplier that it removed all chlorine.
The key is that it has to be a compressed carbon filter....like a solid
block.
The installer proved it by puting in a test tablet. If the water turned pink
then the water contained chlorine.
Besides that...the water is great to drink !

add the required amount of dechlor first.
