I've read it, I've even bookmarked the page... just wanted to see if anyone
has done it, and if there was any success with it?

Seems like a not so bad idea.... but could be 'too frugal' of an idea too...

Why spend all the money on the tank, fish etc and get something like that? I
got 90 lbs of awesome rock from Dr. Macs corals and it was not that
expensive.

Well the environmental issues of "wild" live rock vs cultured come
into play.

In my opinion most live rock is a waste, as any rocks you put in the
tank will become live rock over time. So put a lot of base and just
a few pieces of "live" rock and let it populate the rest of the
rock.

I strongly disagree. The live rock I had had all kinds of growth on it,
orange, pink, sponges and all sorts of critters. I you get your live rock
from the right place, you cannot even compare it it aquacultured rock.

If you don't believe me look at this!

Thats some nice looking rock. How much died off? It'd be nice to see more
pics later as its cured.

That wasn't my rock, but I ordered mine from the same place, a lot of it
does die off, however I have clams, sponges and all kinds of the colored
growth still growing back on the rock. Enough of it stays to grow back over
time.

Must agree w/ orange.... It's fine to have about 1/3 of your rock not
being live, but much more "critters" on live rock, so, better to get
more live rock, than base rock...

Although Mbuna is also correct, all rock in a marine enviroment will
become live, given time, and proper "seeding"... that's why I say
1/3 base rock, 2/3 live rock
