View Full Version : Changing filter systems

I have a 29 gallon tank with one of those "wheel" filter systems. I'm
planning to change it to one of those multistage filters with a foam pad and
bags of charcoal and ammonia chips etc.

Should I just swap systems or should I do something else like put the wheels
into the tank for a few weeks to try to preserve the biomass that has
accumulated. Or is there anything else I should do.

The current system doesn't seem to be doing the job and I have good luck in
my 100 gallon tank with the foam system. That's why I'm changing.

Any comments are appreciated.

Cheers.

Can you run both at the same time for a few weeks?

run both for a month. that is how long it takes for biobugs to build up. Ingrid
