Hi All,
I got two black mystery snails a couple weeks ago. They were both floating
for a day, but one reattached to the side of the tank and the other
disappeared. The tank is completely covered. Now I see only one snail, but
he is lying at the bottom of the tank inside his shell.
I smelled the snail and he smells like bad breath, but if he was dead, I'd
imagine he'd smell worse?
How do I know if the snail is alive or dead? I have seen neither snail out
of his shell for days. The snails share a tank with 3 corydoras, a gourami,
3 swords and 2 guppies.
Thanks,
Jen

my black mystery snails float/drop all the time... sometimes they are
really active (for a snail) and others times they just hole up in their
shells for hours/days. You may be witnessing "normal" behavior...

I think that in the real world the float to move to a new food source (I
read that on one of the many fish groups I follow). And yes, it can be
unnerving to see them float for a long time...

OK, I won't worry so much then. :)
Thank you both for putting my mind at ease.
