I set up my new large tank a month ago, and was horrified to hear what i can
only describe as "chinking" sound coming from it sporadically. It sounded
just like glass when it starts to crack.
Panic stricken I checked everything for the source of this noise. Filter,
oxygen tube, tank walls, could it have been cracking under the gravel?
eeek! It sure wasnt the usual noise the fish make when they move gravel
next to the side of the tank. The sound would happen at irregular intervals
sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes half hour or so. fish unperturbed, and
rather enjoying the attention they were getting.
Then I caught Dimitri, the black and gold oranda, the culprit. I have a new
glass thermometer attached to the side of the tank with a sucker cup. He
was attacking it hungrily in his search for algae, when I caught him he
swam away laughing at me, the others laughed too, I'm currently trying to
think how to get my own back, but they're obviously too smart for me!
