I've been using Tetra Min to feed my cardinals but even granules this small
is too big sometimes. I also feed frozen brine shrimp and see some of it
being eaten but not much (again it appears too big for their mouths). I've
got a 35 gallon planted tank which has been set up for 18 months with 25
cardinals, some loaches, exotic plecos, and a black rubber eel.
Any feeding suggestions??

TetraMin? What kind? TetraMin makes a huge variety of food types.

Is this the one you're using?

Have you tried flake food?

It can be ground up between your fingers to make as fine as you like,
almost a powder. Plus it soaks up water quickly, making it soft
enough for any fish.

Yes...I've been using it for over a year now. I find that when I do a
gravel cleaning with my water changes that I'm siphoning out a lot of the
uneaten granules.

I haven't tried that exact flake food but I have tried spirlina flakes that
I ground up between my fingers...the cardinals don't go near it.

Spirulina are formulated for vegetarians, primarily. Many omnivorous
fish won't touch it. Try a small pak of staple flakes, perhaps your
LFS will even give you a small portion to try.
From AquariaCentral:
"Being small fish, Cardinal tetras need small foods such as flakes
and small aquatic invertebrates, live or frozen. They are omnivorous
fish."

My Cardinals eat frozen mysis, frozen brine shrimp, live blackworms, frozen
Discus Formula, spirulina wafers, frozen Prime Reef, Formula 1 and Formula 2
(last 3 are marine mixes, but they eat the leftovers just fine).
As I thaw and blot in a small cup before I add Selcon it is easy enough to
chop the larger parts into small bits for them to handle. I just snip snip
snip the whole pile with a small scissor.

I feed the regular Tetra Min flakes. I've seen my tetras eat flakes half
the size of their body. I think the trick is for the flake to absorb enough
water first, then they can get it down.

Frozen daphnia make excellent food for small species.
Cheers,
Michi.

I've never had any problems but I always grind the flakes between my fingers as
I drop them into the tank.

Mine eat flake, daphnia, blood worms and small red worms. I've seen them
eat small redworms 3/4 their length.
