Hi,

I've made new 700 l aga aquarium with 225 l sump. They are connected with
two overflow boxes, both with durso standpipe made of 1.25'' pipes and
fittings. The durso works fine, there is no gurgling noise. Noise comes from
the outputs of the pipes that are submerged in the sump. I run the sistem
with german ATK pump that has 5000 l/h flow at 0 feet.
I've tried several things to make it quieter but am still hearing the noise
of large bubbles coming out of the pipes and emerging in sump.
Since I'm only testing the sistem now I'm using fresh water. Maybe this is
the reason why large bubbles come out of my pipes.

Can someone give me some usefoul tips how to reduce the noise.

Tnx

Mislav

Get a length ( a foot or so) of vinyl tubing (larger than airline
hose) and feed it down the standpipe to relieve the air. It will take
a couple days of futzing to find the right spot, but this should
quiet it.

I have also used a "Tupperware container", I placed the return in the bowl,
and allow the water to overflow the rim , and then into sump. This allows
all air bubbles to rise to the surface, and escape without noise. I have
attached a link with pictures on how I did it, hope it works for you.

Once you use sal****er, it will quiet down. Sal****er has a
different water tension. And after it has run for two
weeks, it will be even quieter.

My 280g reef runs 3600gph through my sump, and the one thing
I hear from all my guests is how quiet the fish room is.
Honestly, I think the loud noise you are encountering is due
to fresh water usage.
