I had taken "Wally" the artifical gator up to the shop for a good
cleaning and paint touch up, and also the smaller counterparts of his
out of the pond for touch up etc. I am presently experimenting with a
floating type fountain (home brew) powered by a gas pump until I get
the bugs and design worked out, and this morning I was setting on the
pier, motionless just thinkin g on what I need to do to change some
items around. I saw a heron fly over, circle around and do another
flyover, and then come back and land in the field along the pond. I
did not turn my head, but mmoved just my eyes, and he just stood there
perhaps 50 feet from me. He cautiously walked on over to the ponds
edge, and along the edge towards the pier I was setting on. Closer and
closer he came, got to the pier, and actually walked right by me,
(less than 4 feet sperated us) and out on to the end of the pier. I
then just sort of cleared my throat and thats all it took and off he
went. I don;t know if he still realized I was there or not, but he had
to walk by me, and maaybe it was just the noise he got scared of, as I
still had not made one move............
Not every day you get a heron to walk by you so close. Usually all it
ever took was just to open the ouse door or step into the yard about
300 or so yards away and they wold leave..........Guess I have to get
Wally and his little counterparts back in place........
