Hi Frank -- I'm wondering if you have documentation for your
statements regarding Vitamin D and Hexamita? I've never heard Vitamin
D mentioned as a cause of HITH, and generally aquarists have moved
away from the Hexamita protozoan as a cause. Most believe it invades
the lesions after the onset of the disease. Looking forward to your
reply --

There is medication for "Hole in the head", PetsMart sells it. One of my
tetra head this nasty illness, by the time it was cured , lower mouth and
some of the upper, including one of it's eye was gone. Surprisingly after,
still lived to a long time, was able to eat floating food.
Some times I made sure he gets the food.

i got home last night and went to feed my cichlids, when i noticed that the
pleco wasn't moving. i put the spirulina flakes in the tank and the rest of
the fish went nuts, but he was just hiding his head in some rocks. on closer
inspection i saw that one of his eyes was missing. figuring he'd been
attacked, i tried to get him out, but he swam away. from the new angle i
could see that both eyes were missing. this happened either yesterday or the
day before. does it sound like it could be aggression or hole-in-the-head.
he does have a spot on his side that looks like one of the cichlids rammed
him. do i need to worry they'll be next, if it is HITH?

Paul

PS.
is there anything i can/need to do for the pleco?
